William & Mary’s Global Research Institute (GRI) has awarded an Accelerate program grant to support a project led by Yixuan (Janice) Zhang, assistant professor of computer science, and Professor of Science Education Meredith Kier. The GRI Accelerate funding allows the research team to bridge the gap between technological innovation and classroom implementation.
Hosted by SURN, the Joy of Children’s Literacy & Literature Conference brought together more than 200 educators from 45 school divisions across Virginia. The annual conference allows educators to explore new ideas for cultivating students’ love of reading.
William & Mary School Psychology faculty and students participated in Advocacy Day 2026 with the Virginia Association of School Psychologists (VASP), and organization founded to promote the educational and mental health development of Virginia's students and families.
William & Mary’s School of Education student teachers received F.U.S.E. funding for the first time this spring, helping ten seniors cover living costs during full‑time teaching internships. The support lets them focus on classroom learning and highlights student teaching as a rigorous, immersive internship deserving of financial backing.

Aas the university declares 2026 the Year of Civic Leadership, Associate Professor Janise Parker’s ongoing work with the Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads exemplifies how civic engagement empowers students and strengthens communities.
William & Mary has received a three-year, $2.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to train teachers in conjunction with the nation’s semiquincentennial in 2026. Awarded to W&M’s Strategic Cultural Partnerships, the grant will launch “We the Teachers: Preparing the Next Generation Through History & Civics.” The inaugural Congress of Educators will convene in Williamsburg, Virginia at William & Mary on July 26-30. Fellows who complete all three components of the “We the Teachers” program will receive a $2500 stipend. Applications will clos on January 31, 2026.
