Influential, actionable research is at the heart of our mission to transform students, schools and communities. Our faculty and students are asking tough questions about the role of education in today’s world, creating new knowledge to inform decision-making and finding solutions for complex educational problems.
In 2016-2017, the School of Education generated more than $16 million in active research funds. More than 2/3 of our faculty members are engaged in externally-funded research. Sponsors of projects include the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Science Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. and Virginia Departments of Education.
