"I recently retired as a Commander in the Coast Guard after 25 years military service, four of those from 2009-2012 spent on faculty at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy where I taught and developed courses in national security policy, terrorism, and intelligence analysis.  I enjoyed teaching so much while there I decided I wanted to return to higher education after the military and felt I needed a Ph.D. to do so effectively.  As my family and I planned to return to the Historic Triangle area after my Connecticut assignment, William & Mary was the natural choice for me given its location, history, reputation, and the stellar School of Education where the faculty is top notch.  My research interests include visual analytics, specialty schools, faculty development, and global studies with a specific interest in cultural immersion through study abroad programs."
