Office of Teacher Education

Welcome to the Office of Teacher Education (OTE)!

Becoming a successful teacher requires being given the opportunity to apply learned theories and pedagogy. Field experiences, including practica and student teaching, collectively represent the bridge between the knowledge, skills, and dispositions developed through formal course work in the School of Education (SOE) and the practical application of those professional attributes, skills, and understanding. Our office is committed to ensuring that students in our teacher preparation program have successful, rewarding field experiences that complement their coursework.

The Office of Teacher Education is primarily responsible for facilitating successful partnerships with local school divisions, communicating with the Virginia Department of Education, securing and overseeing our teacher candidates’ primary placements, and assisting teacher candidates in attaining professional licensure. Collaboration with and between faculty, school divisions, cooperating teachers, university supervisors, and student teachers is essential.

After launching to tour, you can click the arrows to walk around or jump to different stops and tours using the menu. For the best experience, be sure to click the pictures, videos and icons at each location to bring the interactive elements to life.

Detailed information about our teacher preparation program and field experiences can be found in the 2023-2024 Handbook for Teacher Candidate Clinical Experiences
