Summer 2020:
For the Joy of Learning: Cultivating Engagement in Your Students is a 5 week online course for practicing K-12 teachers. In this 5-week asynchronous online course, we will explore evidence-based classroom practices that you can begin employing in the next academic year to cultivate student engagement in your classes. Teachers can expect to spend 4-6 flexible hours online each week to complete this course experience. Activities will include readings, asynchronous discussions, and resource explorations. Teachers who complete the course will receive a certificate indicating they have completed 30 hours of professional learning at William & Mary, and the non-credit bearing course will be posted to their William & Mary transcript.
When is the course? July 6 – August 7
Who should register? All grades (K-12) and disciplines are encouraged to register.
Deeper Learning: Unpacking the 5 Cs is a 5 week online course for practicing K-12 educators In this 5-week asynchronous online course, we will explore technologies and strategies for supporting the 5 Cs (critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, communication and citizenship) into your instruction. In 2016, the Virginia General Assembly established the Virginia Profile of a Graduate, obliging educators to provide educational programs and instructional models that facilitate the development of the skills needed for future-ready learners. Each week in this course will focus on one of the 5 Cs. We'll explore the "C" in more depth, and we will provide technologies and strategies that can help you plan for the deliberate integration of the 5 Cs into your curriculum. Participants can expect to spend 4-6 flexible hours online each week to complete this course experience. Activities will include readings, asynchronous discussions, and resource explorations. Teachers who complete the course will receive a certificate indicating they have completed 30 hours of professional learning at William & Mary, and the non-credit bearing course will be posted to their William & Mary transcript.
When is the course? July 6 – August 7
Who should register? This course is most appropriate for upper elementary, middle and high school teachers, although teachers at any grade level are welcomed to register.

Unpacking the 5 Cs is a 5-week online, asynchronous course for practicing K-12 teachers. In this course, we will explore Virginia’s 5 Cs (critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, communication, and citizenship) and how they can be supported in your instruction. Each week we will focus on one “C,” exploring it in depth and discovering technologies and strategies that can help you integrate it more intentionally into your instruction. Teachers can expect to spend 4-6 flexible hours online each week to complete this course experience. Activities will include readings, asynchronous discussions, and resource explorations. Teachers who complete the course will receive a certificate indicating they have completed 30 hours of professional learning at William & Mary, and the non-credit bearing course will be posted to their William & Mary transcript.

Multilingual Learners 101 is a 5-week online, asynchronous course for practicing K-12 teachers. Explore the basics of teaching students for whom English is a second or other language & learn practical strategies that contribute to their success. Learn the ins & outs of creating meaningful projects that support students’ deeper learning in your classroom. Mentoring and Coaching Teachers 1: Defining the Roles is a 5-week online, asynchronous course for practicing K-12 teachers who are interested in learning more about mentoring and coaching their peers. In this course, we will introduce teacher leaders to Adult Learning Theory and explore the related yet different roles of teacher mentors and teacher coaches. This course serves as an introductory course on teacher mentorship and coaching and is intended for current or future teacher leaders. Teachers can expect to spend 4-6 flexible hours online each week to complete this course experience. Activities will include readings, asynchronous discussions, and resource explorations. Teachers who complete the course will receive a certificate indicating they have completed 30 hours of professional learning at William & Mary, and the non-credit bearing course will be posted to their William & Mary transcript.

Mentoring and Coaching Teachers 2: Tools of Mentoring is a 5-week online, asynchronous course for practicing K-12 educators. In this course, we will introduce teacher leaders to tools for helping them determine when to mentor and when to coach. Course topics include knowing when to release responsibility and build agency, knowing when to lead and guide, and navigating difficult mentoring situations. This course serves as a complementary follow-up course to Mentoring and Coaching Teachers 1 and is intended for current or future teacher leaders. Teachers can expect to spend 4-6 flexible hours online each week to complete this course experience. Activities will include readings, asynchronous discussions, and resource explorations. Teachers who complete the course will receive a certificate indicating they have completed 30 hours of professional learning at William & Mary, and the non-credit bearing course will be posted to their William & Mary transcript.
