William & Mary, Master of Education in Educational Policy, Planning & Leadership - Higher Education Administration
Describe your career and how the William & Mary School of Education helped prepare you.
Currently, I am an Academic Advisor for Athletics. I specifically advise the entire Football team, along with Women's Tennis. My primary day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring student athletes' academic progress throughout the semester, assisting in registering my teams for classes for the upcoming semester, and coordinating the onboarding process for incoming freshman and transfer student-athletes. W&M SOE prepared me in many ways, especially in my role as an academic coach in the Academic Enrichment Office during my internship period. Also, the conversations with fellow faculty and staff in the program along with the Office of Professional Development prepared me when I began the interview process.
Why did you choose to apply to William & Mary and specifically to your program?
The main reason I applied to the program was because I was already attending undergrad at W&M so I had a familiarity with the university and heard nothing but good things about the School of Education's higher education program. I knew I wanted to work in athletics in an administration role and felt that W&M SOE could prepare me for those opportunities which they did.
What has been the most influential experience as an alum?
My most influential experience currently as an alum is the relationships that I built during my time as an undergrad and in my master's program. Many of my fellow cohort members are doing well all across the country in various roles. Having the ability to reach out to them to gain insight into their current field while navigating through life as a young professional has been the most worthwhile aspect as an alum thus far.
