Secondary Education as a Second Major
Combine your passion for a content area with the skills needed to inspire the next generation of learners. William & Mary’s Education as a Second Major program allows undergraduate students majoring in English, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies to earn secondary teacher licensure alongside their Arts & Sciences degree. The program integrates disciplinary expertise, educational theory and extensive field experiences to prepare future teachers who can engage diverse learners through meaningful, inclusive and research-based instruction.

What Classes Can I Take Before Declaring?Before the major is declared, students are strongly encouraged to take EDUC 301 and EDUC 310 to prepare for the major. These also count as COLL 200 courses. Students must declare the education major to register for any courses listed under “Junior Year” or “Senior Year” in the program of study. Students should also take classes that count towards endorsement (see section on Endorsement Courses). |
