Jayson Richardson joins W&M Educational Leadership faculty

Jayson RichardsonThis fall, the School of Education welcomes new faculty members. Today, we introduce Jayson Richardson, who is joining our Educational Leadership faculty.

Tell us a little about your background and what brought you to W&M.
I am originally from Indiana. I graduated from the University of Minnesota and started my academic career at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I spent most of my career at the University of Kentucky and came to William & Mary from the University of Denver, where I served as a department chair for the past four years.

What’s your area of research and what question are you most passionate about answering right now?
I am dedicated to helping school leaders leverage the power of deeper learning. I focus on understanding how leaders create and sustain schools that prioritize student voice, student choice and meaningful work. I strive to make formal education more humanizing.

What else are you hoping to get involved with on campus or in the community?
I am passionate about understanding local needs and eager to explore what's happening in Virginia. On the flip side, I have experience living in England and working extensively in Cambodia and the Republic of Georgia, and I am excited to engage in more international efforts at W&M.

Anything else you’d like to share?
I love to tinker. I've rebuilt my first car (which I still have) and have fully renovated three houses. I enjoy visualizing processes and thinking creatively to solve real-world problems.
