The Renaissance of the CFGE Newsletter

Under the direction of Executive Director Tracy L. Cross, the goal of this newsletter is to serve as a catalyst in efforts to “bridge the gap” between the scholarly research that seeks to advance knowledge within the field and the teachers, administrators and practitioners who are on the ground floor interacting with gifted children. Building on the structure of the previous CFGE Systems newsletter and titled after a concept ingrained in our logo by CFGE founder Joyce VanTassel-Baska, we hope “The Bridge: Connecting Research to Practice”  newsletter will serve as a vehicle that allows research to inform practice and vice versa. It is only through our collaborative efforts that we will be able to determine the best course of action in educating the gifted and talented. Articles within this publication will be written by researchers and practitioners who are current students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the Center for Gifted Education at the College of William & Mary. We hope to provide current research in a format that allows for high quality content to be easily consumed by teachers, parents, and administrators.

In this issue...

In every issue we will provide information regarding the curriculum, professional development, conferences and precollegiate programs that comprise our contribution to the gifted education community. The current issue features Dr. Lori Bland who summarizes a previously published article regarding Project Clarion and its impact on urban populations, recent doctoral graduate Dr. Ginny Tonneson as she provides insight to her dissertation study regarding gifted middle school students in Algebra 1 classrooms, and Dr. Jennifer Cross who describes her research in the social dynamics of high school students.
