Wendy Weichel Murawski, Ph.D. (W&M BA '91, MEd '92, Ed.S '95) is the Executive Director and Eisner Endowed Chair for the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL ) at the Michael D. Eisner College of Education at California State University, Northridge.
In early October, at the CTL, she hosted Dr. Diane Ravitch as speaker. Dr. Ravitch was introduced by actor Matt Damon. The event was part of the new "Education on the Edge" series, planned and delivered by the College's Center for Teaching and Learning. This inaugural lecture set the tone for an eventful year. Dr. Diane Ravitch, an educational historian and research professor at New York University, recently shared insights gathered in her latest book, Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America's Public School.
About Dr. Murawski
Professional Interests:
Co-teaching, Collaboration, Inclusion, Teacher Education. Research interests center on the use of collaborative strategies to promote inclusive education for all students, to include both students with disabilities and students who are gifted. The use of co-teaching as a service delivery model is the primary focus of Dr. Murawski’s research, publications, and national presentations.
Background:
Dr. Wendy Murawski is a tenured full professor in the Department of Special Education and the Eisner Endowed Chair for the Center for Teaching and Learning at California State University, Northridge. She obtained her M.A. in Special Education and her Ed.S. in Educational Administration from the College of William & Mary and her Ph.D. from University of California, Riverside with an emphasis in Special Education, Collaboration and Research. Dr. Murawski is currently directing two federal grants and is the College of Education faculty president. She received a national research publication award from the Division of Research in the Council for Exceptional Children, a dissertation award from the Division of Learning Disabilities of CEC, and was identified as the California Teacher Educator of the Year from the California Council of Teacher Educators. She presents nationally & internationally to state departments, districts and schools, is on four speaker’s bureaus, and is a frequent keynote presenter. She is the Director of Research for the CHIME Institute, an institute committed to inclusive education, and is the current Vice President for the Teacher Education Division (TED) of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Dr. Murawski has published three books, four staff development modules, two handbooks, three book chapters, and over 30 peer-reviewed articles. Her three books are with Corwin Press: “Collaborative Teaching in Secondary Schools: Making the Co-Teaching Marriage Work!” (2009), “Collaborative Teaching in Elementary Schools: Making the Co-Teaching Marriage Work!” (2010), and the best-seller, “Collaborate, Communicate, & Differentiate! How to increase student learning in today’s diverse schools” (2011) co-authored with Dr. Sally Spencer. Dr. Murawski’s fourth book, co-authored with Dr. Lisa Dieker, is currently in press with the Council for Exceptional Children to be published April 2012 and is entitled “Leading the Co-Teaching Dance: Leadership strategies to enhance team outcomes.” Dr. Murawski is the CEO & President of the educational consulting company, 2 Teach LLC.
