David Gaston, Berkeley Middle School's principal, has left the school for a promotion to an administrative position effective Jan. 1, 2011. He will become Williamsburg James City County's senior director for specialized educational services.
Dr. Gaston earned three degrees from the College of William and Mary. He received his B.A. in government in 1988, a M.Ed. in secondary education in 1990 and an Ed.D. in the Educational Planning, Policy and Leadership program in 2005. He had been principal of Berkeley Middle School since 2007.
Karen Swann, also a William and Mary graduate, will be the interim principal at Berkeley. She earned her B.A. in 2002 and her M.Ed. in the Educational Policy, Planning and Leadership program in 2007.
