Joy Lawson Davis, MA.Ed. '92, Ed.D. '08

Dr. Joy L. DavisJoy Lawson Davis, MA.Ed. '92, Ed.D.  '08 served as one of three keynote speakers at the Annual Conference of the Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted Conference ( SENG) held in Milwaukee, Wis. in July . Her topic was "The Immeasurable Value of Family Involvement: Addressing the unique challenges of Culturally Diverse Gifted & High Ability Students".

 Dr. Davis was recently notified by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) that she was elected to an at-large seat on the NAGC Board of Directors.

She is the author of the book entitled Bright, Talented and Black: A Guide for Families  of African American Gifted Learners. The book is available via Great Potential Press, Amazon, and other major book dealers.

Dr. Davis is an Assistant Professor of Education at the University of Louisiana - Lafayette  where she teaches courses in Diversity Education and Gifted Education. She is Chair of the NAGC's Diversity & Equity Committee, a columnist for Teaching for High Potential. Dr. Davis is also a consultant to school districts nationwide and with the International Gifted Education Teacher Development Network (Iget-Network), providing professional development support for educators in the Caribbean and South Africa.

She received her M.A.Ed. in Gifted Education (1992) and Ed.D. (2008) from William & Mary in Educational Policy, Planning & Leadership.   She was awarded the  School of Education Award of Excellence for Master's Students in 1992.
