Dr. Frances Boyd ‘72 holds 38 years of teaching experience

Dr. Frances Boyd ‘72 has 38 years of teaching experience from elementary through high school in urban and rural, private and public settings.  She has taught in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland in the areas of Special Education, Reading, Social Studies, French and German. She is currently the Chair of the Undergraduate Education Department.

Dr. Boyd served, not only in the classroom, but as an educational diagnostician and consultant.  She has also taught as an adjunct faculty at James Madison University, George Mason University, West Virginia University, Frostburg State University, and Shenandoah University.  Primary interests include enhancing motivation to read, effective teaching for students with reading difficulties and working with children who have ADHD.  Dr. Boyd has developed a Reading Specialist Certification Program for Saint Francis University that has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Dr. Boyd said, "I am having a ball teaching both courses in literacy and special education, running reading clinic on campus for area children who have reading difficulty and getting ready to work with colleagues to create a broadcast program for children.  The 38 years have passed way too quickly, but I am definitely still having fun.  I chose the right career, and every experience has been an opportunity for growth and renewal."  

Dr. Boyd received her B.A. from The College of William and Mary; M.A., C.A.S., and Ed.D. from West Virginia University.
