Fallin’ in Love with Williamsburg

Gracie

Since I last wrote, Williamsburg has turned into an autumnal paradise. The trees are gold, orange, and bright red. My dog has been frolicking in the crunchy leaves in the park. Although the thermometer hit 80 degrees yesterday, most days have been perfect for sweaters and boots. Fall in Williamsburg is truly something special!

My cohort and I have been celebrating fall together as much as our schedules allow! We had a Hocus Pocus viewing party a few weeks ago and a Halloween party last weekend. (Gracie was a hotdog, and a few of us dressed up as condiments to go with her costume. See below for pure cuteness.) Next Friday, we’ll be having a Friday the 13th party. And we’ve already got a Friendsgiving event planned, as well as two events to celebrate weather!

I think that’s been one of the most surprising parts of attending William and Mary for me. I was totally and completely in love with life in Minnesota; going to undergrad there really planted roots for me, and I doubted I could be as happy in Virginia as I was there. But we’ve got such a strong community at William and Mary that I’ve rarely been homesick. I miss my friends and the Mall of America (and even the cold weather!), but I really feel like I’m a part of a community here. There’s an environment of caring that encompasses everything we do. We really enjoy each other and respect each other here, and that’s made for such a comfortable transition for me. Going into the field of counseling isn’t for the faint-hearted – there’s a lot of hard personal work to be done! – but I feel truly supported by my classmates and professors. We really matter to each other, and I feel that every single day.

Well, it’s time for me to get back to my homework! I hope you’re having a great day wherever you are. Thanks for reading.
