“The best way out, is always through” –Robert Frost
by Edith Gonzalez, Family & Marriage Counseling
I have learned to adopt this motto in order to keep my sanity. Whether my anxiety comes from school or personal reasons, it is best to just get through it instead of just finding the easy way out. I find that I learn best when I apply myself, even in cases where I have dreaded the work. There is no way in knowing what you know unless you have gone through the experience. There is also no way to know if you will succeed unless you try. For example: applying for graduate school. There were many instances in my application process where I wanted to give it all up. I had problems vary from receiving transcripts to recommenders not following instructions. As much as I wanted to go back to school, I kept looking at these obstacles as signs that I won’t get accepted to graduate school so why even try. I am so glad that I pushed through it because I am now here as a first year Family and Marriage Counseling student. And even if I had not been accepted, I would not have to live with the regrets and the what if’s. As scary and difficult experiences can be, we have to have courage and confidence. Just like another saying goes: what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
