The School of Education at W&M offers many opportunities to get together with your classmates to enjoy a little R&R. One of the best, by far, is the winter gala that happens each year at the beginning of the spring semester. More than just an excuse to get dressed in your favorite cocktail attire, this event allows the students from all of the different programs – and their guests – to mingle with each other in a way that doesn’t usually happen in the day-to-day flow of classes. This year’s theme was Casino Night and there were multiple tables set up with different games to enjoy (for no real money of course!!). For those of us that didn’t want, or know how, to gamble, there was food, drinks, and dancing for all to enjoy.
This event provides the perfect opportunity to do things as a group. My cohort, the second-year school psychology students, took advantage by having a pre-gala get together with appetizers and good friends before heading over to the SOE together. It gives us a chance to bond, really enjoy each other’s company while escaping from the general stress that comes with being a graduate student and looking for internships.
