William & Mary, Executive Ed.D. - Educational Policy, Planning & Leadership - K-12 Administration

What is your current job?
Director of Special Education and Related Services for Winchester Public Schools.

What are your research interests?
Supports for alternatively licensed teachers; Teacher recruitment and retention; Addressing achievement gaps for students with disabilities.

Why did you choose W&M?
The reputation of W&M being a premier institute of higher education was important as I chose a terminal degree program as I wanted to challenge myself and have access to research leaders in the field. Additionally, the hybrid option was equally as influential in my decision as it supported my pursuits while working full-time without sacrificing the opportunity to establish a meaningful connection to the university.

What is your favorite thing about the program?
The relationships I established with faculty and cohort colleagues are by far the most lasting and impactful element of the program. They are the reason I was able to successfully complete the program and are still an integral part of my personal and professional journey today.

How has attending W&M impacted your career to date?
The university has extensively impacted my career in several ways. The progressive and holistic instructional programming prepared me to confidently grapple with 'wicked problems' in pursuit of a more equitable future for students in the K-12 realm. The mentorship I received by faculty empowered me to take professional risks. The reputation of the university has provided me with a clear advantage when being considered for career advancement. The alumni networking is unmatched and continues to afford me with personal and professional opportunities that I would not have in the absence of being a member of the W&M community. I will forever be thankful to be an exclusive member of the Tribe.
