Teacher-Made Assessments:

How to Connect Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Learning – November 19, 2008
Participants will gain practical tools and techniques to:

  • Unpack curriculum standards
  • Make decisions about what to teach and what to assess
  • Create meaningful assessments of student learning in the classroom

Drs. Christopher Garies and Leslie Grant will engage participants in a daylong workshop. The workshop is titled after the presenters’ bestselling book, which each participant will receive.

4th Annual Power Tools for Adolescent LiteracyDecember 11-12, 2008
Is reading across the curriculum important for you? Would you like new tools to increase student comprehension and retention of content material? Participants will:

  • review samples of student work,
  • critically examine teacher practices through the use of video,
  • construct learning materials, and
  • engage in discussion about meeting the diverse needs and interests of students.

Jan Rozzelle, author of Learning Communities Guide to Improving Reading, and Carol Scearce will present this interactive workshop in Williamsburg, VA .

13th Annual National Leadership Academy: Rigor in the 21st Century – June 21-23, 2009
Designed to be a series of intimate conversations with educational leaders, the National Leadership Academy offers the opportunity for 250 building level administrators, central office administrators, and teacher leaders to engage in dialogue with experts in the field and colleagues.  Featured speakers include:

  • Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, Academic Leadership : Creating a Climate of Success for All Students
