New Faculty Welcome!

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Pamela Eddy and Dr. Steven Staples as full-time members of the School of Education faculty.

Eddy will be teaching courses on policy, higher education finance, and organization and governance in the EPPL Program. “I hope to also offer a course in women in education and another on community colleges,” remarked Eddy.  She comes to William and Mary after six years at Central Michigan University (CMU) where she was an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and the Director of the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program.  Dr. Eddy has been awarded a Fulbright to study policy at the Dublin Institute of Technology in 2009.

Staples joins the William and Mary School of Education Faculty this fall full-time as Executive Professor.  Staples had been teaching at the W&M SOE in an Adjunct or Clinical Executive role since 1994 while also serving the York County Public School System as the Superintendent of Schools. York County Public Schools has 10 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 4 high schools, and 1 alternative school, which together, serve more than 12,000 students and their families.  “I had been superintendent in the division for 17 years.  That’s a very long tenure given the national and state averages.  I felt like it was time for me to seek a different path and allow the division to benefit from a different perspective at the helm.  Since the School Board had just started a new four year term, it seemed a good time to make the move and bring in a new superintendent.”  York County Public Schools are known for supplying students with an environment of academic rigor and excellence in education.  Staples brings a wealth of experience in K-12 education policy, planning, and leadership.

We are equally pleased to announce and welcome Dr. Nathan Alleman and Dr. Leslie Grant to our faculty as visiting professors.

Nathan F. Alleman, Ph.D., is a Visiting Assistant Professor, with research interests in faculty sociology, organizational change, and the impact of spatial dynamics on campus relationships. Prior to this position and completing his Ph.D., Alleman served in the Department of Residence Life at Eastern Mennonite University.

Leslie W. Grant, Ph.D., is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership areas.  She is the co-author of Teacher-Made Assessments: How to Connect Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Learning.  Dr. Grant was a middle school teacher and instructional leader before serving as a developer of state customized assessments for a major test publishing company.
