David Gosling Ph.D. ’20 joins W&M counseling faculty

david gosling headshotThis fall, the School of Education welcomes new faculty members. Today, we introduce Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling & Director of Military Counseling Concentration David Gosling Ph.D. ’20.

Tell us a little about your background and what brought you to W&M.

I pursued my doctoral studies here at W&M under the guidance of Rip McAdams, a fellow U.S. military combat veteran. It was a wonderful experience, and I was delighted to be able to come back to serve our community again.

What’s your area of research and what question are you most passionate about answering right now?

I look at many intersectional factors that contribute to counseling competency with military-veteran clients. My dissertation was on moral injury among combat veterans. I am also interested in first responder mental health and psychedelic assisted therapy (PAT).

What else are you hoping to get involved with on campus or in the community?

Any and all engagements with student veterans across campus that I can help with or get my own students engaged with is one of my greatest hopes.

Anything else you’d like to share?
