A Deeper Dive Into Literacy

Each 30 minute video below explores a literacy concept through its research base or the why, and then learn the how, instruction, necessary to put it into practice. We, as educators, need to understand the why of research and then the how to operationalize the research within our teaching practice.

Visit the Equipped for Reading Success Asynchronous Book Study site to participate on your own and at your convenience.  Videos discussing the important information within each chapter and accompanying resources are provided.  A manual may be requested for use while engaging in learning with the asynchronous book study site from the TTAC William & Mary Library If you wish to purchase your own manual, it may be purchased by following this link.

As the manuals checked out from the TTAC William & Mary Library will need to be returned upon completion of the book study, Dr. Kilpatrick provided this booklet to parents during virtual learning time to use with their children to continue to provide phonological awareness activities (Response to Covid-19 and Distance Learning – Equipped for Reading Success).  This resource is out of print. Rosner-Program-to-support-EFRS-levels-.pdf (equippedforreadingsuccess.com)  Dr. Kilpatrick's activities are based on this resource.

The following topics will be added soon:

  • The Simple View of Reading and Scarborough's Reading Rope Metaphor with its application to reading instruction.
  • Repurposing running record to target instruction.
  • The use of decodable texts to support instruction.
  • Other topics of interest suggested by you, the audience.
