We know our students need diverse literature, and this year’s Joy of Literacy & Literature Conference is designed to prepare teachers to ignite student passion for just that. This year’s conference includes:
- morning keynote by Katie Kelly, Associate Professor of Education at Furman University, and co-author of Reading to Make a Difference and Critical Comprehension: Lessons for Guiding Students to Deeper Meaning (both with Lester Laminack),
- breakout sessions arranged in the following strands: K-2 literacy & literature; 3-6 literacy & literature, and 6-12 literacy & literature
- topics such as writing about what I read, being contextually responsive to students’ social/emotional needs, seeing myself in what I read, writing about who we are, seeking hope in literature, and more!
- lunchtime networking & sharing with colleagues
- afternoon keynote by Esther Kim, Ph.D., assistant professor at William & Mary School of Education. Dr. Kim will discuss the need for diverse representation in literature, best pedagogical practices, and cross content connections.
Join us as we explore what’s new in diverse literature and bring the joy of reading, writing, and speaking into our classrooms!
