Professional Development Online Academy

The Center for Gifted Education offers many professional learning opportunities to parents, K-12 schools, school districts, university students, organizations, and associations around the world. 

The Professional Development Online Academy is our newest method of training, hosted by the Thinkific learning management platform. Our new Online Academy Courses are Internet-based and self-paced. Learners are able to track their progress, watch videos, download files, and complete engaging activities. Each training is hosted by Center faculty or staff with extensive experience with gifted and talented/advanced learners in the classroom. Each training gives you all the benefits of a Center for Gifted Education Professional Development for a fraction of the price and from the comfort of your own home. Upon completion of a course, learners may download their certificate of completion.

Language Arts Units (Kendall Hunt)

The goals of the Language Arts units (published by Kendall Hunt) are to develop student's skills in literary analysis and interpretation, persuasive writing, linguistic competency, and oral communication. The focus of this curriculum training course is to familiarize educators new to the curriculum with the organization and components of the units, the teaching models used throughout the series, and implementation best practices.  This training is the equivalent of a 2-day in-person training. Jacob Ladder Series

The Jacob Ladder Series is part of the larger Language Arts Curriculum developed by the CFGE.  It is intended as a supplement to either the W&M language arts units or regular classroom curriculum and targets reading comprehension in high-ability learners. The focus of this training is the implementation of the curriculum units. This session includes the curriculum framework, an overview of each of the 3 series (Reading Comprehension, Nonfiction, Affective), the components of a lesson, modeling of how to take students through a lesson, assessments, differentiation, and programming options. This training is the equivalent of a 1-day in-person training. More details on the Jacob Ladder Reading Comprehension Program are available here.
