Virginia Latino Higher Education Network Scholarship

The Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN), a Commonwealth organization dedicated to support the success of Latinos in higher education, announces its second annual scholarship dedicated to assist Virginia Latino/Hispanic students to pursue higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be of Latino/Hispanic heritage; live in Virginia ; be high school Seniors, or be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Virginia degree-granting, public or private, higher education institution.

Award Amount

The scholarship award is in the amount of $1000.00 and will be paid directly to the college or university to cover tuition, books, and/or fees.

Additional Awards

Students submitting applications for the VALHEN scholarship will also be considered for one of three $500 awards sponsored by Liberty Tax Service. The criteria for these awards is the same as for the VALHEN scholarship and candidates need only submit one application to be considered for all awards.

How to Apply
The scholarship application is on-line and has six parts. You will need to provide the following:

  • Contact information
  • Current Grade and Grade Point Average (GPA) - All finalists will be required to provide proof of GPA
  • Extracurricular activities
  • College and Career Plans
  • An essay of 500 words or less on the following topic: “What Being a Latino/a in America Means to Me.”
