Alexander Zaccardelli ’26
Undergraduate Award for Excellence

Throughout his undergraduate career at William & Mary, Alex Zaccardelli ’26 has demonstrated academic excellence, professional dedication and thoughtful leadership. A major in elementary education in the Curriculum & Instruction Department, Alex has distinguished himself through a strong work ethic, reflective practice and constant care and attention to all in his orbit.
His nominator April Lawrence, director of field and clinical experiences, described Alex as “a truly outstanding, empathetic teacher who embodies all the values and aspirations of our program.” Across extensive clinical experiences, including practicum and internship placements in first- and fourth-grade classrooms, Alex designed engaging, standards-aligned instruction and reflected meaningfully on his practice. He spent summers working with Smith Mountain Lake Good Neighbors teaching reading and literacy in rural southwest Virginia, and worked as a tutor and substitute teacher at Williamsburg–James City County Schools.
“What particularly distinguishes Alex is his ability to think critically about teaching and to contribute to the broader professional community,” said Lawrence. As an undergraduate, he presented at state and national conferences, sharing insights drawn from his clinical experiences. As a substitute teacher he demonstrated an ability to adapt quickly, maintain structured learning environmentsand support diverse learners. His academic achievements include an outstanding GPA and recognition as a William & Mary Teacher of Promise.
Alex’s intellectual curiosity, professionalism and leadership make him a deserving recipient of the School of Education Award for Excellence. Congratulations to Alex!
