PK-12 Administration

The PK-12 Leadership master’s program is designed for working professionals to complete their work in two years as part-time students. Areas of focus in both the master's and certificate programs include educational leadership, instructional leadership and organizational leadership. Sample course topics include the following: Concepts and cases in leadership; administration of special education; assessment and evaluation; and educational law.

To obtain the add-on endorsement in Administration and Supervision PK-12 from the Virginia Department of Education, students must hold a valid Virginia teaching license, have three years of successful teaching* experience and a master’s degree in teaching or a related education field.

For students who do not already hold a masters, the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership fulfills the master’s requirement. For students who already hold a master’s degree, the post-professional certificate in educational leadership provides completers with the necessary coursework to seek licensure.

Successful licensure also requires a qualifying score on the School Leadership Licensure Assessment.

*Applicants must have completed three years of teaching experience by the time they finish the program. For example, students applying to the master’s program may apply with one year of teaching experience, as they will complete the required three years of experience by the time they graduate.

Certificate

Application materials include your unofficial transcript(s), a resume/CV, and two recommendations. 

Full-time educators currently working in a public or private PreK-12 institution in Virginia may
be eligible for a 25% discount on tuition for the master’s and certificate programs in Educational Leadership – PK-12 Administration. Participants must be Virginia Residents, can only take up to six credit hours per semester, and must be employed full-time in a Virginia PK-12 school. The discount can only be used toward part-time master’s and certificate programs.
