Hiring of graduates

Annual Reporting Measure Seven

Ability of completers to be hired in education positions for which they have prepared (initial & advanced levels)

Since 100% of our students pass licensure exams, and 100% of our students complete the necessary coursework and practicum experiences, all our students are eligible to be hired in the positions for which they trained in the state of Virginia.

The percentage of all program completers, both initial and advanced, employed in Virginia as of 63%, 70%, and 79% for 2017, 2018, and 2019.

In addition, we examined the employment of program alumni.  In the teacher preparation program, we administered a survey to 198 program completers. The completers’ names were derived from a list provided by the state of Virginia from the initial teacher preparation programs for the years 2015-2020 as well as internal alumni records. Of these 198 completers, we obtained 62 responses for a response rate of 31%.  Of these 62 responses, 59 indicated that they were employed in the position for which they trained at William and Mary, or 97% of respondents.  These data are skewed by the way we obtain email addresses of alumni; however, this still indicates robust employment by alumni.

In order to understand the employment of alumni from the W&M advanced programs, we administered a survey to alumni of the School Psychology, School Counseling and K12 Administrative Programs.  Because of small response sizes, we aggregated data from these advanced programs to protect student privacy.  We determined the alumni from an IPALS records from the state of Virginia as well as internal alumni records. Of these 111 alumni surveyed, we obtained 28 responses for a 25% response rate. Of these 28 responses, 26 indicated that they were employed in the position for which they trained at William and Mary, or 93% of respondents.  These data are skewed by the way we obtain email addresses of alumni; however, this still indicates robust employment by alumni.
