William & Mary welcomes first cohort to new Orton-Gillingham Scholars Program

Summary

We are pleased to announce the William & Mary Orton-Gillingham Scholars Program, a collaboration that perfectly aligns with the School of Education's mission and vision. This program is a collaborative effort with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the W&M Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) and the W&M Literacy Lab.

Full Description

Orton-Gillingham is a multisensory, structured literacy instructional approach for reading remediation, designed to address the needs of students who have difficulty with reading, spelling and writing. The Orton-Gillingham training is an intensive week-long training sponsored by the VDOE and offered to in-service teachers across the Commonwealth. W&M will be one of only two universities in the Commonwealth that offers this training to pre-service teachers.
