Tisa Mason Ed.D. '93, CAE
Presented the Robert H. Shaffer Award by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors
Dr. Tisa Mason, who received her doctoral degree from the W&M Higher Education Program in 1993, has been named by the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education to become the new president at Valley City State University.
Dr. Mason served for six years as vice president for student affairs and professor for advanced education programs at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. A member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Tisa served as the Sigma Kappa and Sigma Kappa Foundation Executive Director from 1994-2004.
When she earned her doctorate at the College of William and Mary in 1993 she was named the recipient of the Armand J. and Mary Faust Galfo Education Research Fellowship.
She is a long time member and volunteer for AFA, NASPA, NACA, Sigma Kappa, and the CSCF. Tisa currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values. She has additionally been a part of the LeaderShape Institute, Inc., American Society of Association Executives, and the Fraternity Executives Association.
Robert H. Shaffer Award
In 2013 Dr. Mason was awarded the Robert H. Shaffer Award by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA). This award was established in 1980 by AFA in honor of Robert H. Shaffer, professor of education at Indiana University and mentor to many professionals in the fraternity movement. The award is presented annually to an individual in the field of higher education who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to fraternities and sororities. The individual should have demonstrated a commitment to fostering positive change in the fraternity/sorority community, building partnerships in higher education and the interfraternal community, and mentoring both new and seasoned professionals.
Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award
Dr. Mason was a 2012 recipient of the Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA).
She has committed herself to representing the profession of higher education administration and the specialty of fraternity and sorority advising for many years. She is involved in the fraternal movement through AFA, NASPA, the Center for the Study of the College Fraternity (CSCF), and Sigma Kappa along with her work as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas. Tisa seeks out opportunities to make a difference and serve others. Her service has impacted many and her commitment reaches far and wide. Tisa got involved early and continues to serve in so many ways to advocate for the fraternal movement and the profession of fraternity and sorority advising.
