Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Resources Opening Math Page Math Curriculum Frameworks Math ESS Lessons Math Vertical Articulation Tool Learning Disabilities in Mathematics Co-Teaching Math Instructional Plans Just-in-Time Quick Checks 2009-2013 Mathematics Standards of Learning Institutes: Professional development for teachers. Format: balance between conceptual and procedural. Includes facilitator guides, power points, handouts, etc. that can be used to replicate the training provided at the summer Math SOL Institute. There is the potential for SOL institutes to be repeated locally. For example, multiple divisions could pool resources to host regional training. Mathematics Instructional Resources Mathematics Enhanced Scope and Sequence Sample Lesson Plans - Helps teachers to align instruction with the 2009 Mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) by providing examples of how knowledge and skills found in the SOL and curriculum framework can be presented to students in the classroom. Instructional Videos for Teachers - These instructional videos are provided as support for the implementation of the 2009 Mathematics Standards of Learning. Mathematics Vocabulary Word Wall Cards - Mathematics vocabulary word wall cards provide a display of mathematics content words and associated visual cues to assist in vocabulary development. Geometry word wall cards are new. VDOE is working on Algebra I & II cards. Algebraic Properties SOL Vertical Articulation Technical Assistance Documents Technical Assistance on Selected Content of the 2009 Mathematics Standards of Learning - This vertical articulation document is organized by strand and is a “must read” in order for teachers to become familiar with the entire mathematics strand. VDOE Mathematics: Approved Calculators Allowed Math Aids Algebra Readiness Initiative Standards of Learning (SOL) & Testing - Pay close attention to the last column entitled: Resources for Instruction & Assessment Located in this column and new this year: Updated Using Statewide SOL Test Results to Guide Instruction – Examples of challenging SOL content based on statewide results. ** VDOE Assessment Specialists describe the use the SOL practice items (also in this column) for grades 3-8 and Algebra as essential. Narrated demonstrations of technology-enhanced items are also located here. Alternative and Alternate Assessments Participation and Inclusion TeacherDirect: The goal of TeacherDirect is to provide a means to share new VDOE created instructional resources as well as to make teachers aware of professional development, grant opportunities, and other information of special interest to teachers and their students.
