Center for Innovation in Learning Design
Launched in early 2016, the Center for Innovation in Learning (CILD) brings together researchers and practitioners to explore, prototype, and test new learning designs. CILD has a particular focus on projects that explore deeper learning in K-16 schools and classrooms.
Deeper learning refers to a set of interconnected competencies that prepare students for life in and beyond the classroom. These competencies include mastery of core academic content, critical thinking and complex problem solving, effective communication, collaboration, an understanding of how to learn, and academic mindsets (The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, 2013). Through a number of funded research and development projects, Fellows in the Center for Innovation in Learning Design are exploring how to best help novice and experienced teachers and school leaders bring deeper learning experiences to their students.
