Amber Pope and Bianca Augustine contributed to the development of "Exemplary Practices for Counseling Sexology and Sexual Wellness," endorsed by the newest division of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counseling Sexology and Sexual Wellness. Along with three other authors, Pope and Augustine created professional guidelines for counselors and mental health professionals to use when addressing topics of sex, sexuality and sexual wellness with clients and communities. The exemplary practices emphasize critical perspectives and a trauma-informed framework for counseling, along with recommendations for advocacy, counselor education and supervision. Pope presented on the exemplary practices at the 2024 American Counseling Association Conference in New Orleans.
