We are excited to share that Bruce Bracken, Professor Emeritus, has published a new mystery novel, “Death on Gwynn’s Island,” the first installment of a planned Chesapeake Bay mystery series.

The novel is set in Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay region, with storylines connecting Gwynn’s Island, Mathews County, Gloucester, Williamsburg and Richmond’s Carytown district. The story begins during a violent nor’easter on remote Gwynn’s Island, where a murder investigation exposes buried tensions, hidden loyalties and long-held secrets stretching from coastal Virginia to Richmond. 

“As a resident of Gwynn’s Island, I wanted the Island and the Bay to feel like characters in the story,” Bracken said. “The novel grew out of a fascination with the history, culture and rugged independence of Virginia’s coastal communities.”
