We are excited to share that EDJ Postdoctoral Research Fellow Joseph L. Boselovic released a new research brief, “Public School Closures in the Commonwealth of Virginia Since 2000.”

In this brief, Boselovic examines where and when school divisions have closed schools and provides case studies of school closures in three school divisions in different parts of Virginia. The brief details the closure of over 175 schools over the past quarter century and reveals that a majority of school divisions within the Commonwealth have closed at least one school since 2000.

While prior research has largely focused on mass school closures in large cities, this brief expands the conversation and aims to provide researchers, policymakers, division leaders, educators and families with useful insights on the experience of school closure in Virginia.
