Clinical Assistant Professor of Counselor Education and Supervision and Doctoral Program Coordinator Bianca Augustine and Assistant Professor of Computer Sciences Yixuan (Janice) Zhang were awarded a W&M AI4Health Interdisciplinary Teaching Award. Their proposal, “Increasing Counselor Efficacy and Knowledge Through AI,” was selected for funding through the newly launched AI4Health initiative. Through this funding, Augustine and Zhang will bring together counseling and computer science students to collaboratively explore the potential uses of AI in fostering counselor trainee development. They aspire to facilitate transformative critical conversations about the ethical use of AI in counseling and mental health, identifying and exploring potential risks, safeguards and professional responsibilities.
