Full Description
Nathan F. Alleman Ph.D. '08 has recently published a new book with Cara Cliburn Allen and Sarah E. Madsen titled "Starving the Dream: Hunger and the Hidden Costs of Campus Affluence." In this book, the researchers investigate the experiences of exceptional low-income students as they navigate life in prestige-oriented universities. With an emphasis on the reality of food insecurity while living in environments of plenty, the researchers meticulously and carefully challenge the reader to reconsider the broader impacts of higher education's structures and priorities, urging a reevaluation of what full participation should look like in these resource- and opportunity-rich environments.
Alleman completed his doctorate in Educational Policy, Planning & Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Administration. He was a visiting professor in the School of Education's Higher Education program from 2008-2010 and is currently an associate professor in educational leadership at Baylor University, Waco, Tex.
