Yvonne Smith-Jones M.A.Ed. '87, Ed.S. '93, Ed.D. '97, has been recognized by Women Education Leaders in Virginia (WELV) with the 2024 Mentor Award. Over the span of her career, she has mentored teachers, superintendents, principals, assistant principals, professors, graduate students and many other educators in the Commonwealth. She has also served W&M SURN (School-University Resource Network) as an Impact Coach for the Principal's Academy for many years.
In their announcement of the award, the WELV Executive Board writes: "Your tireless efforts in advocating for education and empowering others have made an indelible impact, inspiring countless individuals and contributing significantly to the advancement of educational initiatives in our community. Your commitment to excellence sets a shining example for all of us to follow."
