Congratulations to alumna Emma Stephens B.A.Ed. ’25 on starting her first year of teaching in the Williamsburg-James City County School System at Clara Byrd Baker Elementary. Recently, Stephens was featured in an article in the “The Virginia Gazette” highlighting some of the new teachers in the school district. Stephens shared how she got into education and some of her hopes for her career as a teacher.

Stephens will be teaching third grade at Clara Byrd Baker Elementary, the school where
she completed her student teaching. She said she is thrilled to be returning as a first-year teacher.

“WJCC (Schools) really fosters a sense of family and community here, and you can definitely feel that. I felt that all throughout my student teaching,” Stephens said. “Launching into this onboarding process has been super awesome.”
