Finding ways to reach and embrace linguistically diverse student populations
Rachel Granata earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Linguistics. In past years, Rachel worked with children through the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia and the College Partnership for Kids as an after-school tutor. As a junior, Rachel completed her student teaching at Magruder Elementary School in Williamsburg. Rachel says her background in Linguistics helped her more effectively teach emergent readers and writers in the first grade.
In the summer of 2009, she conducted research on "Language Variation in the Classroom" and looks forward to bringing research experiences and new knowledge into the classroom to benefit diverse student populations.
Honored with the Donald S. and MaryAnne Bruno Elementary Education Scholarship Fund a scholarship for students seeking a degree in elementary education.
