Blending her passions – the love of children and a concern for the environment
Stephanie Burton can remember playing "school" with her dolls or friends and always loving being around children. She demonstrates her commitment to education and science through her numerous teaching experiences and volunteer programs such as Teach for America, The Chester Family YMCA, National Science Teachers' Association, and the Student Environmental Action Coalition. Her passion for teaching compelled her to volunteer in local elementary schools and ultimately at an elementary school in Belize. Stephanie was there for two weeks in January 2009 as a participant in a William and Mary service trip called Students for Belize Education.
In April Stephanie was honored with the Peter D. and Phyllis S. Pruden Endowed Scholarship to support academically distinguished students in the School of Education, concentrating in elementary education who shows academic distinction and good character.
As a senior at the College of William & Mary, she is pursuing a double major in Elementary Education and Environmental Policy. Her goal is to blend her two passions: children and the environment. She has completed preliminary research on the topic of Environmental Education as part of an independent study at the College.
