Camp Alkulana has an urgent need for summer camp counselor applications! Camp Alkulana is an overnight summer camp that serves low income families from the Richmond region. Campers are 9-14 years old. The camp is located in the mountains in Bath County, Virginia. More information can be found on our website. Positions are paid, flexible (full or partial summer contract), and we are happy to work with students on crafting their position into an internship for their specific field of study.

Tutor with Orton-Gillingham Training (Summer Position – rising 4th Grade Student)

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate tutor with Orton-Gillingham training to provide in-home academic support for a rising 4th grade boy with learning accommodations over the summer. The focus will be on strengthening foundational skills—particularly decoding and reading fluency—using a structured, multisensory approach.

The tutor must be available early mornings, 2–3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized, one-on-one instruction tailored to the student’s learning profile and accommodations.
  • Focus on decoding, phonics, and reading fluency using the Orton-Gillingham method.
  • Create a patient, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents to track progress and adjust strategies as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Formal training in the Orton-Gillingham approach (required).
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children, especially those with learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD).
  • Background in education, special education, reading intervention, or a related field preferred.
  • Patient, flexible, and responsive to a child’s individual learning style.
  • Must be available early mornings 2–3 days a week for sessions, if right fit, may be flexible in time.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications

Location:

📚 Position Details:

  • Subjects: Reading & Mathematics (with a STEM enrichment lens)
  • Student Level: Rising 1st Grader
  • Schedule: 2-3 Days/Week, Ideally Monday-Wednesday
    Time: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM 
    Dates: June 30 – August 11, 2025 (Dates Flexible)
  • Location: Toano, VA (in-person)

💡 Ideal Candidate:

  • Completed student teaching or formal training with early elementary students
  • Familiar with or excited to incorporate STEM activities to build literacy and numeracy
  • Creative, patient, and passionate about early childhood education
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality are a must

💰 Compensation:

We offer a competitive rate of $20–$35/hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Williamsburg Presbyterian Church (WPC) has a part-time position (approximately 25 hours/week) open for a Director of Youth, College, and UKIRK Ministries. WPC is a 1,000-member church located in Williamsburg, Virginia, with an active Christian Education program. The Director of Youth, College, and UKIRK Ministries serves as a team member of the staff of WPC and the Christian Education Ministry, planning, developing, coordinating, and overseeing ministries for youth (grades 9-12) and college age young adults, including the UKIRK Ministry at William & Mary. A bachelor's degree is required, with preference toward a certification in Christian Education or equivalent experience. Must be willing to work flexible hours. Sunday mornings are required.
