Community & Action Research Engagement

The William & Mary Community & Action Research Engagement (C.A.R.E.) Lab is intentionally designed to align with the university’s Vision 2026 strategic goals. Core objectives and activities, in accordance with the strategic goals, are detailed here.

Mission Statement

The C.A.R.E. Lab will serve as a hub of support for faculty, staff and students to conduct, disseminate and apply culturally responsive and social justice-oriented research that centers holistic wellness among youth, families and communities in partnership with the broader community. Community includes, but is not limited to, PK-12 schools (and related personnel), civic organizations, faith-based institutions, and other youth and family serving agencies.

Vision

The C.A.R.E. Lab will address mental health disparities and promote equitable access to high-quality behavioral, social-emotional and mental health services among youth, families and communities.

The C.A.R.E. Lab disseminates and applies research and relevant scholarship for various community stakeholders. This includes facilitating in-service workshops/trainings for community members on topics related to the needs of youth and families and supporting school-age youth through service-learning activities.

Community Collaborative Research

The C.A.R.E. Lab trains graduate and undergraduate students to conduct and disseminate applied/action research. Consistent with the research process, graduate and undergraduate students who are involved in the C.A.R.E. Lab will have opportunities to help (a) conceptualize research projects, (b) collect and analyze data, (c) organize research activities, (d) write and edit material for publication and presentations, and/or (e) perform other related duties.
