Community Collaborative Research Projects

The C.A.R.E. lab conducts innovative and interdisciplinary research to address inclusive excellence and social justice in the broader community.

Lab personnel (including the director and research assistants) design collaborative research projects alongside various community stakeholders, as well as faculty within the School of Education and across the university when relevant to the respective project.

Research Strands

  • Family and Community Practices to Cultivate Social-Emotional and Behavioral Well-Being among K-12 Students

Research projects under this strand explore how school personnel, mental health providers, families, and community members can support youth well-being through culturally responsive social, emotional, and behavioral programming.

  • Trauma-Informed Care in Schools and Communities

Research projects under this strand explore the experiences (and related outcomes) of school and community members who provide trauma-informed care to youth and families.

  • Cultivating Well-Being in the Workplace through Group-Based Support

Research projects under this stand explore the impact of group-based programming that can facilitate healing and flourishing among individuals who are vulnerable to experiencing interpersonal wounds due to harmful relational practices in the workforce. In partnership with community members, group-based programming can be adapted to support emerging professionals (i.e., higher education students), K-12 educators, and individuals with unique social identities.

Student Testimonial

Conducting research in the CARE Lab has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my graduate career. I've learned so much from the members of the communities that we've been invited into through research. The work that is happening through the CARE Lab goes beyond viewing research participants as subjects and instead considers them as active and critical partners in the research process. I look forward to continuing my work in the CARE lab in my final year of my doctoral program.
