Why did you choose W&M?
I was considering Harvard, Columbia, and Oxford, but I settled on W&M because the location is convenient, making in-person instruction an option, which I prefer. Also, my supervisor, Dr. Warren Hunter, is a recent alum. Finally, a close colleague and friend, Dr. David Shin was also in my cohort.
What is your favorite thing about the program?
The program features an eclectic powerhouse lineup of professors. I really enjoyed being able to connect with and feel valued by each.
How has attending W&M impacted your career to date?
Generally, I am an inspiration. People are impressed to encounter a relatively young African American teacher with a doctoral degree from a top-tier school like W&M. It has lead to more opportunities to lead in the Center for the Study of Boys at St. Christopher's School. I have also lander several advisory board committee positions.
