William & Mary, Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership
Describe your career and how the William & Mary School of Education helped prepare you.
As the Associate Director for the W&M Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC), I am involved in developing programs, professional development opportunities, and coaching support for educators in 32 Virginia regions. The leadership skills I learned with respect to communication, educational policy, strategic planning, organization, and collaboration have been critical to my success and effectiveness in this role.
Why did you choose to apply to William & Mary and specifically to your program?
The reputation of William & Mary was the first draw. When I met with a faculty member, Dr. Grant, to inquire about the program, I was immediately struck by the personal and personalized approach W&M took with respect to its students. I felt heard and respected. The immediacy of responses, from my first inquiry to class registration, and the level of support that I was offered were incredible to me! Additionally, as I did research on the SOE faculty and saw their exceptional scholarship and national recognition, I knew W&M would be my home!
What has been the most influential experience as an alum?
As an alum, I serve on the School of Education’s Development Board. The ability to support and give back to the W&M Community at this level has been a very rewarding experience. Additionally, I get to serve with leadership giants in the field of education and these collaborations have been a great learning experience for me.
Any additional information you think a prospective student should know about the School of Education and our degree programs?
The School of Education is all about you. You come first. Your dreams, your goals, your learning style. We do not develop programs that you have to ‘fit’ into. We design programs around you! The advising and support you receive is critical to your success as a student. That understanding is the W&M way!
