Sheryl Threadgill

Ms. Threadgill is a retired social worker and a native of Wilcox County, Alabama. Located in the Black Belt region of Alabama, among the poorest of the counties in the U.S., where over 52 percent of the children live in poverty.
Since 1993, Ms. Threadgill has served as the director of BAMA Kids, which aims to improve the well-being of youth in Wilcox County by combining organized recreational and educational activities, developing and promoting leadership involvement for youth and their parents, and by promoting life skills to prevent substance abuse and other harmful activities. In an region where there are few opportunities for organized activities for youth, BAMA Kids has been successful in recruiting high-risk youth to its programs, maintaining contact with them and making significant impacts on their lives.
Ms. Threadgill is deeply connected to her community, serving on several boards promoting community development and improvement.
