Profile
Preston brings more than two decades of experience in higher education advancement. Most recently, he served as executive director of advancement at the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester, where he led a comprehensive fundraising strategy, advanced major and leadership giving programs, and played a central role in campaign planning and execution. His work has focused on building strong partnerships with academic leadership, engaging alumni, donors and other stakeholders, and aligning philanthropic investment with institutional priorities.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. John Fisher College and a master’s degree in human development from the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education. Preston’s commitment to education is deeply personal. He grew up on a small family sustenance farm in the rural Southern Tier of New York and initially aspired to become a teacher, inspired by his early schooling experiences. After beginning his career in public accounting and financial services, he ultimately found his way back to education through advancement, supporting the preparation of teachers, counselors and school leaders for more than 20 years.
He is especially drawn to the School of Education’s mission and its potential to influence the future of education and society. He enjoys thinking creatively about how philanthropy can drive meaningful change. Preston is looking forward to being closer to family in Virginia, including his three nephews — Danny, James and Eli — and to building new traditions in Williamsburg, both personally and as part of the School of Education community.
Outside of work, he enjoys kitesurfing, with favorite destinations including Aruba and the Outer Banks. He is excited to partner with alumni, board members and other friends of the School of Education to advance shared goals and expand the school’s impact in the years ahead.
