We are delighted to offer several exciting opportunities for professional learning during the 2018-2019 academic year. From online professional learning courses, to a virtual book club with local school leaders, to focused Twitter chats, Tribe Teachers will offer multiple ways to engage with K-12 educators in our evolving community of practice.
Online Teacher Professional Development Courses
(October 15th - November 16th)
This fall, we will offer two online professional learning opportunities for teachers. Our online courses are designed and facilitated by William & Mary staff and affiliated faculty and K-12 leaders. Courses are asynchronous, and can therefore be completed with some flexibility for working educators. Teachers who complete an online professional development course will receive a certificate indicating they have completed 30 hours of professional learning at William & Mary. The fee for each course is $150.
For the Joy of Learning: Cultivating Engagement in Your Students
For the Joy of Learning: Cultivating Engagement in Your Students introduces teachers to the some of the fundamental research that supports the importance of student engagement in the classroom. Teachers will review several evidence-based practices for increasing student engagement. This course is open to all interested K-12 teachers. Space is limited to 25 participants. Teachers who complete this professional learning opportunity will receive a certificate of completion for 30 professional development hours. Learn more.
Mentoring and Coaching Teachers
Mentoring and Coaching Teachers is a course for prospective teacher leaders. This course will introduce teachers to adult learning theory and explore the characteristics of teacher coaching and teacher mentoring. Space is limited to 25 participants. Teachers who complete this professional learning opportunity will receive a certificate of completion for 30 professional development hours. Learn more.
Virtual Book Club
Tribe Teachers is partnering with Ira Socol, Pam Moran, and Chad Ratliff, authors of Timeless Learning: How Imagination, Observation, and Zero-based Thinking Change Schools, to offer a virtual book club over the academic year. FREE to interested Virginia teachers and school and district administrators, the virtual book club will include 4 one-hour webinars with the authors of the book. Participants should purchase their own copy of the text. Learn more.

This summer, we will offer two professional learning opportunities for teachers. Our workshops are designed and facilitated by leaders and innovators in the field of education, and they are hosted here at the William & Mary School of Education. The fee for each workshop is $150.
Understanding Texts & Readers, with Jennifer Serravallo
Understanding Texts & Readers is a workshop designed to help comprehension make sense. Jen will walk you through how to use text levels as a teacher's tool to know what to expect of readers' written and oral responses level-by-level and goal-by-goal. You'll explore how this knowledge applies to your students, and you'll experience a variety of methods of teaching that you can use to put strategies in action in the classroom to support your readers as they work toward comprehension goals.
