Our objective is to cultivate an inclusive and diverse community and to create a supportive environment for all students regardless of race, ethnicity, gender expression, language, abilities/disabilities, country of origin, socioeconomic status, and/or sexual orientation. We will create a brave and safe space for students, where students can feel supported and celebrated. We will encourage all students to examine their lived experiences, values, beliefs, and assumptions, with the understanding that this reflexivity is necessary for identifying unexamined biases and respecting different perspectives.
We also focus our efforts on helping students become culturally responsive professionals who are well-trained in best practices around diversity and inclusion. Our current priorities include:
- Fostering inclusion and belonging
- Hiring, retaining and supporting faculty of color
- Promoting diverse, culturally responsive pedagogy and research
