Take Ten Gratitude Events

Take ten minutes (or more!) to unwind and connect.

As part of W&M Education Week, join us for daily afternoon activities designed to help students, faculty and staff de-stress and make deeper connections with the community. We'll have a series of activities and treats every afternoon, Monday through Thursday, to show gratitude for the extraordinary work that the practicing and aspiring educators in our community are doing.

All events are 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the School of Education lobby

Monday, November 15

Hot Chocolate/Coffee Bar + Candygrams
Join us for a Ben & Jerry's hot chocolate and coffee bar featuring multiple flavors, toppings and biscotti. While you sip your drink, write a thank you card to the important educators in your life. We'll deliver the cards with a piece of candy attached!

Tuesday, November 16

Art Therapy + Extraordinary Cupcakes
Join Sarah Balascio, art therapist with W&M Health & Wellness, for an art-based activity designed to decrease stress, increase positive mood, and experience mindfulness. Art therapy will be 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. We'll also have mini-cupcakes in assorted flavors from Extraordinary Cupcakes.

  • Virtual Option! If you aren't on campus, join us at 4:15 p.m. ET via Zoom to participate in our art therapy activity. Register here for the Zoom session. Supplies needed: Paper, a dark marker/pen, and something to color with (colored pencils, crayons, paints, etc).

Therapy dog teams from K9 Connection, a local therapy dog organization, will be at the school to visit with students. Get some furry cuddles then enjoy a dessert as you head off to class. Nancy Dodenhoff, massage therapist from W&M Health & Wellness, will offer brief seated massage sessions to students. Arrive early to reserve your time slot.

Thursday, November 18

Drop-in Yoga and mindfulness + Tea and cookies
On Thursday afternoon, Jenny Niles, a doctoral student in counselor education, will offer a brief (10-15 minute) yoga practice that will show you how to incorporate gentle focused movement into your daily routine for increased clarity, focus and calm. (No exercise gear/clothing required!) We'll also have Martha Rouleau, adjunct lecturer with W&M Wellness, offering a brief guided mindfulness practice centered on the power of gratitude. Activities will begin every 15 minutes. Come as you are and while you're here, enjoy from a selection of hot teas and sweet treats.
